Among ancient Chinese architecture structures, Buddhist temples are some of the most notable remaining examples, thus becoming a major source for understanding the built environment before the Ming dynasty. The lecture will select some important Buddhist temples from the past to observe the historical environment, outline the diverse evolution of Buddhist worship spaces in different times and spaces, and the interaction between local and foreign factors.

About the Lecturer：

Dr. Yang Xu | Associate Curator of the Hong Kong Palace Museum

PhD in architectural history at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, post-doctoral researcher in the National University of Singapore. He specializes in the research and curating of Chinese traditional architecture and gardens, and the material culture of the royal courts.
